banning of wood burning fireplaces

How real is the banning of wood burning fireplaces?

There is nothing like sitting around a warm crackling fireplace on a cold Canadian winter night. Wood burning fireplaces have been a tradition for many Canadian families for centuries. My family has enjoyed this tradition for years.  This may be about to change. The banning of wood burning fireplaces is happening, it is only a matter of when.

Cities are experiencing higher levels of smog and lower levels are air quality.  They are evaluating the impact of wood burning fireplaces on the environment.  The change to protect the environment has begun. New homes across the country are prohibited from having wood burning fireplaces. Montreal has announced that it will be  banning the use of of existing wood burning fireplaces in a couple of years.  It’s only a matter of time before other cities follow suit.

I get the environmental concerns but I am sad that the days of enjoying the smell of burning wood as I warm up around my fireplace may become just a fond memory of the past.
