Even though winter is lingering a little longer than some of us would like, there’s still plenty to enjoy both indoors and out. We’ve got a list chock full of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend! Let’s get cracking!
1. Centennial Park Earth Hour Nature Walk

Where: Centennial Park Arena, 156 Centennial Park Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 5N3
It’s Earth Hour this Saturday, and what better way to celebrate than an evening walk among nature in Centennial Park? Run by Our Place Initiative, this community gathering serves as a great reminder that we all share this beautiful and precious planet. Simply dress for the weather and show up!
2. Community Bird Walk in Colonel Samuel Smith Park

When: Saturday, March 25th, 2017, 9am – 11am
Where: Colonel Samuel Smith Park, 3145 Lake Shore Boulevard West, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1L4
If you’re up for a morning walk on Saturday as well, you can join Citizens Concerned About the Future of the Etobicoke Waterfront (CCFEW) for a bird walk in Colonel Samuel Smith Park. This organization has been around since 1989 and aims to protect the Etobicoke waterfront environment. The monthly bird walks are led by experienced birders and are free!
3. High Park Eagle Youth Family Nature Walk

When: Saturday, March 25th, 2017, 1:30pm – 3pm
Where: High Park Nature Centre at the Forest School, 375 Colborne Lodge Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3
There’s yet another walk happening this Saturday and this one is over in High Park and will be led by the High Park Eagle Youth Group. Anyone is welcome to join the young naturalists to explore woodland and black oak savannah habitats while learning about the animals and plants of the park.
4. Gardening with Native Plants

Where: Howard Park Tennis Club, 430 Parkside Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3
If you happen to be heading to High Park on Sunday instead, you might be interested in this workshop happening at Howard Park Tennis Club. Acclaimed author and native plant expert Lorraine Johnson will be offering up plenty of tips and best practices for growing native plants.
5. Volunteer at ‘Kids Being Kids’ at CJ’s Skatepark

Where: CJ’s Skatepark, 60 Horner Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 4X3
CJ’s Skatepark has been around since 2008 and is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to making skateboarding accessible to everyone. This Saturday, they’ll be holding a ‘Kids Being Kids’ event for children and their families living with cancer. Kids and adults are welcome to volunteer to lend a helping hand with various activities. Check out the website for more information.
6. Coding My First Game at Annette Library

Where: Annette Library, 145 Annette St, Toronto, ON M6P 1P3
This workshop for 8-12 year olds will introduce youngsters to the world of game coding. Kids will learn to use Scratch to create a game involving dragons, monsters, and cakes! Sounds like fun for all future game developers. Call ahead to register and bring a laptop!
7. Art Show at Home & Condo Market, Brokerage

If you’re looking to add some artwork to your home, or you just want to check out some work by local artists, this show could well be worth a visit. It will include feature works by Toronto artist Richard Blair Martin who is known for his vintage-style artwork depicting well-known landmarks in Toronto and the surrounding area.
8. The Oldies Dance at Lakeshore Moose Lodge

Cost: $8
The Oldies Dance has changed locations over the years but remains a popular event and is now held upstairs at the Moose Lodge. Get your dancing shoes on as you surely won’t be able to resist getting your groove on to a string of hits covering Rock and Roll, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, Disco, and Motown!
9. Cynthia Fay’s Final Recital

If you’re looking for a Friday date night idea, singer songwriter Cynthia Fay’s final recital could be just the ticket. The indie jazz-soul-folk inspired musician will be playing all-original tunes, new and old, alongside various supporting bands.
10. The Golden Joker Awards Nomination Comedy Show

What better way to finish up the weekend than with a good old belly laugh? The Golden Joker Nomination Comedy Show is happening at Arizona’s and entry is free. You can enjoy comedic performances from great acts including Eric Johnston and Alex Friesen, and vote your choice for the Golden Joker 2017.
