With the weather set to warm up and Mother’s Day to celebrate, there are tons of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend. Check out our list of ten events worth checking out! There’s sure be something for everyone. Let’s go!

1. Thompson Sells Mother’s Day Neighbourhood Celebration

When: Saturday, May 13th, 11:30am – 1:30pm

Where: The Thompson’s, 21 Bentley Drive, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 3L9

We’re pleased to add one of our very own events to the list this week as we’ll be holding a special neighbourhood Mother’s Day celebration to thank all of the awesome moms in our community. Come along for snacks and refreshments and to mingle with the neighbours. There’ll be gifts for all the moms as well as fun stuff for the kids including face painting and an ice cream truck. Don’t forget to RSVP (see the brochure for more details).

2. Old Mill Mother’s Day Buffet

When: Sunday, May 14th, 10am – 1:30pm and 5pm – 7:30pm

Where: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5

If everyone needs a break from cooking and cleaning up, why not go out for lunch or dinner on Mother’s Day. The renown Old Mill Mother’s Day Buffet is back with a huge selection of delicious fare. There’ll be carved roast beef, pork loin, seafood, decadent cakes, and lots more. If you’re looking for something different there are also special Mother’s Day offerings at The Vue and Merlot Restaurant.

3. Masterworks Old And New Concert

When: Friday, May 12th, 8pm

Where: Martingrove Collegiate Institute, 50 Winterton Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9B 3G7

Cost: $15 – $30

If Mom loves classical music, tickets to the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra (EPO) Masterworks Old and New Concert could be the perfect last-minute gift. The EPO comprise around 60 musicians and aims to enhance the cultural resources within the community while providing a training ground for talented and enthusiastic musicians. This is their last concert of the season and will feature a full range of pieces as well a guest appearance by Dina Nekhai on the flute.

4. Pokémon Regional Championships

When: Saturday and Sunday, May 13th – 14th

Where: International Plaza Hotel, 655 Dixon Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9W 1J3

If you have a Pokémon fan in the family, then this could be one big weekend! The Pokémon Regional Championships is happening at the International Plaza Hotel. Fans will battle it out via trading cards and video games to win prizes and have a chance to move forward. With up to $50,000 in prizes up for grabs, it’s sure to be an exciting event!

5. Celebrating Superhero Mothers at Brentwood Library

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5

Want to do something a little different to celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day. Brentwood Library is holding a fun drop-in event for kids and their moms. There’ll be card-making, games, and a fun photo booth that transforms moms into superheroes. Also on Saturday, there’s Mother’s Day Storytime at Elmbrook Library.

6. LAMP Gigantic Garage Sale

When: Saturday, May 13th, 10am – 3pm

Where: LAMP Community Health Centre, 185 Fifth St, Etobicoke, ON M8V 2Z5

Whether you’re looking to get rid of some clutter or you’re ready to find your next bargain, the LAMP Gigantic Garage Sale might be just the ticket. For those wanting to sell, a table is just $20. If you’re hunting for some treasures, admission is free and you just never know what you might find. If you’re after some more bargain hunting on Saturday, you can also check out the St. Matthias Anglican Church Flea Market from 8am until 1pm.

7. Wings and Wildflowers Workshop

When: Saturday, May 13th, 10am – 12pm

Where: Centre for Urban Ecology, 205 Humber College Blvd., Toronto, ON M9W 5L7

If you want to get outside with nature while learning a thing or two, this is the perfect event for you. This free family-friendly workshop involves a guided wildflower walk in the Arboretum Forest as well as a visit to the new Tranquility Bird Garden. You’ll hear about plants that support birds and pollinators and learn some tips and techniques to use at home.

8. Unfolding Origami Mysteries: Origami Workshop

When: Saturday, May 13th, 10am

Where: Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre, 3155 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 4B7

Have you always wanted to try your hand at origami? This is the perfect opportunity! Sharon Kawabata will be talking about blending the tradition of origami with the concepts of recycling and reuse. You’ll have the chance to create your own origami butterfly cards to celebrate the return of the monarchs to the park. You can register for this workshop through Eventbrite.

9. 3D Printer Certification at Long Branch

When: Saturday, May 13th, 10am – 12pm

Where: Long Branch Library, 3500 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8W 1N6

While it’s still a marvel that 3D printing is a reality, it’s now available for almost anyone to try. This session will teach attendees to use the 3D printer at the Digital Innovation Hub. Also, at the same location later in the day is Introduction to 3D Design. If you can’t make it to Long Branch Library for these sessions, there is also a 3D Printer Certification session at Richview Library on Saturday.

10. Creative Works Conference 2017

Where: Humber College Student Welcome and Resource Centre Atrium, 3155 Lake Shore Blvd. W., Toronto, ON M8V 4B7

Cost: $125 – $150

If you’re interested in attending the Creative Works 2017 event, there are still tickets left. This day-long conference explores the latest news in the creative community and looks at trends that are set to shape the future of the cultural sector. Sanjay Khanna of University of Toronto’s Massey College will be the keynote speaker and there’ll be presentations, workshops, and more.
