If you’re staying local this weekend, there’s plenty to do. We’ve got a list chock full of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend, with something for the whole family! Let’s jump in!

1. Woodbine Ribfest

When: Friday – Sunday, August 25th – 27th

Where: Woodbine Racetrack, 555 Rexdale Blvd, Toronto, ON M9W 5L2

Cost: $5 (12 and under free)

If you missed Ribfest at Centennial or simply can’t get enough of that finger-lickin’ goodness, not to worry. Woodbine Ribfest is on this weekend with plenty of delicious eats on offer. There’ll be live music, a beer garden, and a kids area including bouncy castles. You can also see horse racing at certain times, and if you’re there on Saturday, you can stay late to watch an airing of the Mayweather vs McGregor fight.

2. Eastern Swansea Country in the City

When: Sunday, August 27th, 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Where: Starts at Runnymede Library, 2178 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6S 1M8

Cost: Suggested donation of $10

Heritage Toronto is running a series of tours throughout the summer and this week Eastern Swansea is the hot topic. You can join the walking tour and learn all about the history of the area, including how Catfish pond was named and why alcohol was banned south of Bloor until the 1990’s.

3. Crafty Saturday at Humber Bay Library

When: Saturday, August 26th, 10:30am – 12pm

Where: Humber Bay Library, 2178 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6S 1M8

If you want to keep the kids occupied this Saturday, you can take them over to Humber Bay Library for a morning of fun nature crafts. This week, as part of the TD Summer Reading Club, kids will be making a grassy head to take home. This is a drop-in program with no registration required.

4. Islington Seniors’ Centre Community Lunch

When: Friday, August 25th, 11:30am – 1:30pm

Where: Islington Seniors Centre, 4968 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M9A 1B7

Cost: $4

It’s that time again, for the Islington Seniors’ Centre community lunch. Open to both members and non-members, you can head over to socialize with friends old and new. The lunch includes a hot meal, dessert, and tea or coffee.

5. Early Years Baby Club at LAMP

Where: LAMP Community Health Centre, 185 Fifth St, Etobicoke, ON M8V 2Z5

The Etobicoke Lakeshore Early Years Centre offers a place for kids and caregivers to come together to play, learn, and grow. Friday mornings are open to babies 0-12 months. This week the baby club theme is songs and rhymes, so take your little one along for a fun time and interaction for both of you.

6. Fit for All Fridays

Where: Java Joe’s, 1500 Islington Ave, Etobicoke, ON M9A 3L8

Happy Healthy Women runs regular health, wellness, and social events across Etobicoke. This event will be hosted by Mimi Louie, a nutrition and fitness coach, who specializes in helping busy, professional women. The event will be a free-for-all casual conversation about health, fitness, and nutrition, and offers a chance for you to ask Mimi your questions.

7. Food Truck’N Friday

When: Friday, August 25th, 4:30pm – 10pm

Where: Resurrection Road and Bloor Street West (near Islington subway station)

We featured Food Truck’N Fridays earlier in the summer, but these events are definitely worth another mention in case you’re missing out. On select Friday evenings during the summer, local food trucks gather together at Resurrection and Bloor to offer up a feast. This one is a must for foodies!

8. Back to School Girls Program

When: Sunday, August 27th, 9:30am – 3:30pm

Where: Perth SDA Church, 220 Bethridge Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9W 1N4

Cost: $10

Love Our Lives is a not-for-profit dedicated to helping girls and women overcome issues surrounding bullying and low self-esteem. This particular program has been designed to help girls aged between 9 and 14 as they prepare to head back to school. You can register on their website or through Eventbrite.

9. Summer Picnic

When: Saturday, August 26th, 10:30am – 2:30pm

Where: High Park Area 23 (50) Shelter, 1873 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3

Cost: $4 – $6

Are you a mechanical engineer or have a budding one in the family? The Ontario Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers is holding their annual picnic in High Park this weekend. Aside from food, there’ll be fun activities for all ages. You don’t have to be a member to join in, but sign up early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are available through Facebook or Eventbrite.

10. LIT Fitness Experience

Where: West Deane Park, 376 Martin Grove Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9B 4L9

Cost: $5 – $25

Looking for a fun fitness experience for the whole family? L.I.T. Fitness is running a full day of fitness fun at West Deane Park this Sunday. With classes including Zumba, Yoga, and Kid-fit, there’s something for everyone. There’ll also be a BBQ, live music, giveaways, and more.
