There are plenty of fun things to do in Etobicoke, and there’s sure to be something for everyone in the family! Our top ten list has all you need to make it a fantastic weekend. Let’s get started!
1. Fresh City Farms’ Open Farm 2017

When: Sunday, June 25th, 12pm – 4pm
Where: Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Rd, North York, ON M3K 2B6
This event, not too far from Etobicoke in Downsview Park, offers a rural day out without having to drive to the country. There’ll be a makers’ market featuring everything from craft beer and organic wine to artisanal cheese and direct trade tea. There’ll also be a farm and greenhouse tour, nature crafts for the kids, a musical performance by Merival, and even a spot of yoga!
2. Toronto Taiko Tales for Arts in the Park

When: Friday, June 23rd, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Where: Panorama Park, 31 Panorama Ct, Etobicoke, ON M9V
This event is part of Arts in the Park and will continue the “Toronto Taiko Tales – Global Beats from Around the City” season. This evening of drumming and percussive explorations will see performances from various ensembles followed by workshops for participants to try out the drums for themselves.
3. Gypsies and Folk Melodies at Montgomery’s Inn

Where: Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1A8
Cost: $37.99
As part of Neapolitan Connection’s “The Great Composers” concert series, New World Trio will provide an afternoon of classical music based on folk songs from the Classical and Romantic eras. However, if Balkan beats and Klexmer tunes are more your thing, then you can might want to head over to see “To Budapest and Back” with The Gypsy Rebels on Sunday.
4. Jazz Festival Within the Jazz Festival at Old Mill

Where: Old Mill
Cost: $35.50 per show
If you want to soak up the incredible atmosphere of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival but don’t fancy dealing with downtown traffic, then Old Mill is the perfect spot for you this weekend. They will be hosting a “festival within a festival” that will see Heather Bambrick perform along with various guests in a two-weekend series. This Friday she’ll be performing with June Garber and on Saturday she’ll take to the stage with Shakura S’Aida.
5. Monthly Community Lunch at Islington Seniors’ Centre

Cost: $4
It’s time for Islington Seniors’ Centre’s monthly community lunch. Head on over to enjoy a hot meal and socialize with friends old and new. The lunch is open to both members and non-members and includes a tea or coffee and a dessert. Registration for this event is required.
6. MomenTO: Toronto’s Heritage of Innovation

As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, MomenTO has partnered with Heritage Toronto to present a series of talks revealing how innovation in Toronto has impacted Canada and indeed the rest of the world. This talk by Jessie Hirsh will explore Toronto’s technological innovations that have had an impact on Canadians.
7. Learn to Camp with Parks Canada at Richview Library

Where: Richview Library, 1806 Islington Ave, Etobicoke, ON M9P 3N3
Are you thinking about taking the kids camping this summer but don’t quite feel prepared? Then this workshop could be just right for you. This event, presented by Parks Canada as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations, will teach participants everything they need to know about planning a trip, including pitching a tent and cooking outside. It’s free and open to all ages although registration is required.
8. All About 1867 – Canada’s Great Lakes Ships and Shipwrecks

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5
Another interesting event happening as part of the 15oth anniversary celebrations is this presentation of stories about Canada’s ships and shipwrecks. Learn about the most visited shipwreck, a shallow water ghost ship, and a burned steamship. This will all be delivered by husband-and-wife team Chris Kohl and Joan Forsberg, maritime historians and photographers with a great passion for underwater archaeology.
9. Beekeeping Challenges Course with Humber College

Where: Center for Urban Ecology, Arboretum Blvd, Toronto, ON
Cost: $75.00
With urban beekeeping rising in popularity, Humber College is on hand to help those in need of some guidance. This full-day course will cover a range of beekeeping challenges, including how to deal with pathogens, pests, and predators. Learn about monitoring techniques, including what to look out for with swarming and what to do in certain situations.
10. SEYA’s RUCKUS: Back to Our Roots

South Etobicoke Youth Assembly (SEYA) is a fantastic group of young people formed with the goal of providing support and recreation for Etobicoke youth. This talent, fashion, and advocacy show will showcase some of wonderful things these youngsters have to offer.
