We’ve got a big birthday to celebrate this weekend and thankfully there are plenty of fun local events to help. Between all the food and various forms of entertainment, it’s sure to be a fantastic weekend for the whole family. To help you decide what to do, we’ve put together our top ten list of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend. Let’s get started!
1. Ribfest at Centennial Park

Where: Centennial Park, 256 Centennial Park Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 5N3
Every year, thousands of hungry revelers line up for some of the world’s juiciest and most delicious ribs at the famous Centennial Park Ribfest, and this year is sure to be no different. This Rotary Etobicoke charity fundraising event aims to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars and features a huge lineup of food vendors, music, a midway, and a kid zone.
2. YOWronto Music Festival

When: Saturday, July 1st & Sunday, July 2nd, 10am – 10pm
Where: Woodbine Mall, 500 Rexdale Blvd, Etobicoke, ON M9W 6K5
This annual international music festival will span two days and feature a ton of artists from all over the world, including Alison Hinds, Tessanne Chin, and Baby Cham. If you can’t make it to the actual event, it will also be live streamed via social platform, Peeks. Aside from music, there will also be cultural arts and crafts, as well as a variety of Caribbean foods to sample.
3. Queen’s Plate Festival at Woodbine Racetrack

When: Saturday, July 1st and Sunday, July 2nd
Where: Woodbine Racetrack, 555 Rexdale Blvd, Toronto, ON M9W 5L2
Cost: $30 +
Canada’s oldest thoroughbred horse race is back for its 158th year! However, this year the Queen’s Plate will take on a slightly different form as it will run as a two-day festival. On the Saturday, there’ll be racing and a concert, and Sunday will see the main race as well music from the Goo Goo Dolls and Matt Mays, food trucks, games, prizes, and more. Hot tip: General admission tickets are two-for-one until Friday!
4. Party Like It’s 1867 at Black Creek Pioneer Village

When: Saturday, July 1st – Monday, July 3rd, 10am – 5pm
Where: Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York, ON M3J 2P3
Cost: Free – $15
How would you like to be transported back in time to celebrate Canada’s birthday in the style of those who actually lived in 1867. You can head over to Black Creek Pioneer Village for a medieval carnival featuring performers that can juggle fire, amaze you with their strength, and wow you with magic tricks. There’ll also be theatrical performances, musicians, and carnival games!
5. Canada Day Party at Humber Bay Park West

Where: Humber Bay Park West, 2225 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 3X7
This family event features a massive lineup of performers taking over two stages in Humber Bay Park West. You’ll hear from a wide variety of artists, representing the many cultures of Etobicoke, including Polish, Somali, South-Asian, and lots more. There’ll also be dance and multi-arts performances, plenty to eat and drink, and a fireworks display to close the evening.
6. Canada Day Tea at Montgomery’s Inn

When: Saturday, July 1st, 1pm – 4:30pm
Where: Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1A8
Cost: $7
If you’d rather avoid the huge crowds and loud music this Saturday, then Montgomery’s Inn might be more your thing. They’ll be taking a more relaxed approach to the Canada 150 celebrations and serving up iced tea, pinwheel sandwiches, layer cake, and hand-churned strawberry ice cream. There’ll also be activities for kids, historic cooking demonstrations, and tours of the inn.
7. Kambule Fest for Arts in the Park

When: July 1st, 2pm – 5pm
Where: Amos Waites Park, 2441 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1C5
Arts in the Park continues with Kambule Fest at Amos Waites Park. This event, presented by Ballet Creole, will display traditional Caribbean Carnival-style dance and music. Aside from watching performances, you can actually have a go yourself by taking part in a dance workshop!
8. Canada 150 BBQ Buffet at Old Mill

Where: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5
Cost: $16.95 – $32.95
Old Mill will once again be offering a plethora of delicious eats, this time in honor of Canada 150. Head on over with the family to enjoy BBQ chicken and ribs, grilled salmon, burgers, sausages, and an assortment of sides. There’ll also be music from Fiddlestix and face painting for the kids.
9. Mini Makers at Brentwood Library

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5
If you’re looking for something to keep the kids entertained (and inspired) this summer, you might be interested in Brentwoood Library’s series of STEM workshops. Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) educational concepts are explored in this fun activity-based program. Four to eight year olds can go along to participate in hands-on activities that spark creativity and wonder.
10. King Lear and Twelfth Night in High Park

Cost: Pay-what-you-can or $25 (premium seats)
Calling all theatre lovers! Shakespeare in High Park is back for its 35th year, and there are two wonderful shows to be enjoyed. On Tuesdays, Thurdays, and Saturdays, you can catch King Lear, and on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, you can see Twelfth Night.
