If you’re wondering what to do this weekend, then look no further as we’ve got your go-to guide. This weekend is Doors Open Toronto, so plenty of local attractions will be offering free admission. Check out our list of ten fun things to in Etobicoke where there’s something for everyone in the family. Let’s go!

1. Spring Bird Festival

Where: Colonel Sam Smith Park, 3145 Lake Shore Boulevard West, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1L4

This is the perfect weekend for getting outside and enjoying the sights and sounds of spring. The Spring Bird Walk at Colonel Sam Smith Park is in its eighth year and offers up a fun outing for all the family. Hourly bird walks start at 10am and there’s also family activities, live bird and reptile exhibits, Professor Pricklethorn, and more!

2. Humber Bay Farmers Market Opens

When: Saturday, May 27th, 9am – 2pm 

Where: Humber Bay Park West, 2225 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 3X7

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on some fresh local produce, then you’ll be happy to hear that the Humber Bay Shores Farmers’ Market is opening this weekend. There’ll be fresh fruit and veggies, meats, cheeses, preserves, and more. If this location isn’t convenient for you, you can check out some of the many other great Etobicoke farmers’ markets open this spring.

3. Humber’s Historic Tunnel Tours

When: Saturday and Sunday, May 27th – 28th, 10am – 4pm

Where: L Commons, 19 Colonel Sam Smith Park Drive, Etobicoke, ON M8V 4B6

The 18th annual Doors Open Toronto event is happening this weekend and includes free access to many wonderful locations around the city. Humber College will be taking part and offering up this tour of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. Tours last just over an hour during which you’ll gain exclusive access to explore the tunnel system that runs under the property. You’ll also learn about the history of the building and the evolution of psychiatric care in Ontario. Also, take a look at their website for more Doors Open Toronto events to be held by the college.

4. Captured on Canvas at Montgomery’s Inn

When: Saturday and Sunday, May 27th – 28th, 10am – 4:30pm

Where: Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1A8

Montgomery’s Inn is also taking part in Doors Open Toronto so admission to the museum will be free this weekend. Visitors will be treated to an exhibition of paintings by Clara Harris, an early 20th-century Ontario artist. There will also be hourly trolley tours of Islington Village and live music!

5. High Park Nature Centre Doors Open Toronto

When: Saturday and Sunday, May 27th – 28th, 10am – 5pm

Where: High Park Nature Centre, 375 Colborne Lodge Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3

There are lots of open doors at High Park this weekend, so plenty to explore. The High Park Nature Centre invites you to learn about the history and architecture of the Forest School on a self-guided tour. The Children’s Teaching Kitchen will also be offering tours and activities and Colborne Lodge will have costumed interpreters sharing stories from the past.

6. The Caverners Beatles Tribute Band at Old Mill

When: Saturday, May 27th, 6pm – 12am

Where: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5

Cost: $25

Any Beatles fans out there will love a night out at Old Mill this Saturday. Beatles tribute band, The Caverners, have been delighting audiences for over twenty years. They’ll take to the stage in the Old Mill dining room, complete with authentic costumes, to blast out favorites including A Hard Day’s Night and Hey Jude.

7. Afro-Caribbean Night and Silent Auction

Where: The Salvation Army Lakeshore Community Church, 5 Thirtieth St, Etobicoke, ON M8W 1N2

Cost: $5 – $10

This event is in its second year and looks to be a fun night out for all to enjoy the tastes, sounds, and sights of Africa. You can also bid on some awesome items in the silent auction, including gift cards and admission to Canada’s Wonderland and the Ontario Science Centre.

8. Etobicoke School of the Arts Fundraiser Yard Sale

Where: Etobicoke School of the Arts, 675 Royal York Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 2T1

For all you treasure-hunters, there are a couple of big yard sales happening in Etobicoke this weekend. First, you can head over to the Etobicoke School of Arts to see if anything catches your eye. Also on at the same time is the Weston Park Community Yard Sale which is organized by community youth and will offer up baked goods, face painting, and more.

9. BBQ and Fun Fair at All Saints Catholic School

Where: All Saints Catholic School, 1435 Royal York Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9P 3A7

Also on Saturday is the fundraising barbeque for All Saints Catholic School. There will be tons going on for the kids, including a 50′ obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, a video bus, and a face painting clown.

10. Doors Open and Plant Sale at Applewood, The Shaver Homestead

Where: Applewood, The Shaver Homestead, 450 The West Mall, Etobicoke, ON M9C 1E9

If you haven’t had your fill of history just yet, there’s yet another Doors Open Toronto event in Etobicoke this weekend. Applewood, The Shaver Homestead is a 1 1/2 storey farmhouse designed by the same architect as Old Mill. There’ll be guided and self-guided tours as well as a plant sale.
