Even though the kids are back in school, there is still plenty of summer fun to be had. If you’re staying local this weekend, you’re in luck, as there are plenty of events happening right on your doorstep. Our list is packed full of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend, with something for everyone! Let’s jump in!

1. Taste of the Kingsway

When: Friday – Sunday, September 8th – 10th

Where: Bloor Street West from Prince Edward Drive to Montgomery Road

Taste of the Kingsway is always one of the most of most anticipated events of the year here in Etobicoke. This year is no different. With over 150 exhibitors, this combination of culinary art and entertainment is the perfect way to wrap up summer. There’s plenty of fun for the whole family with lots of delicious food, live tribute bands on three stages, a dog show, an ice cream eating contest, and more.

2. Franklin Horner Community Centre’s Annual Extravaganza

When: Saturday, September 9th, 11am – 5pm

Where: Franklin Horner Community Centre, 432 Horner Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8W 2B2

Another big community celebration happening this weekend is the 13th annual extravaganza run by Franklin Horner Community Centre. These guys sure know how to throw a party and there is a ton packed into this one event. From live country music and delicious ribs, to storm troopers and a bull riding contest, there’s definitely something for everyone!

3. Islington Seniors’ Centre Annual Indoor Garage Sale

When: Saturday, September 9th, 9am – 1pm

Where: Islington Seniors’ Centre, 4968 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M9A 1B7

If you love garage sales, don’t worry, the season isn’t over yet. Plus this one is indoors so it doesn’t matter what the weather is like. Head on over to find your next treasures. There’ll be books, clothes, appliances, housewares, and more.

4. Mystic Pointe Community Party

When: Sunday, September 10th, 12pm – 3pm

Where: Mystic Pointe, 300 Manitoba St, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 4G9

There’s yet another fun community gathering happening this weekend at Mystic Pointe. The businesses in the area come together to throw this party each year and this one is set to be bigger than ever. As well as hot dogs and ice cream, there’ll be contests, giveaways, and face painting. You’ll also be in with a chance to win the awesome door prize of a pair of Maple Leaf tickets.

5. Black Oak Brewing Open House

When: Saturday, September 9th, 12pm – 6pm

Where: Black Oak Brewing, 75 Horner Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 4X5

Black Oak Brewing Company has been undergoing some serious changes over the summer. Now, they’re ready to unveil their new look, and are throwing an open house in its honour. Go for a tour and sip on some delicious brews. You can even play some beer pong, pinball, and darts while you’re at it.

6. Storytime and Craft at Northern Elms Library

When: Saturday, September 9th, 2:30pm – 4pm

Where: Northern Elms Library, 123B Rexdale Blvd #5, Etobicoke, ON M9W 1P1

It’s a very special storytime at Northern Elms Library this Saturday as renown Toronto children’s author Kathleen Gauer will be there. Kids will hear her reading from her new book and will have the opportunity to create their own classroom poster afterwards.

7. My City My Six Exhibition Opens

When: Saturday, September 9th until Tuesday, October 3rd

Where: The Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr, Etobicoke, ON M8V 4B6

The My City My Six (MCM6) project revolves around Torontonians’ answers to the request “Tell your story in six words.” Answers were selected by a jury to create an exhibition that reflects what these Toronto residents have shared about themselves. There are also similar exhibitions starting this week at other Etobicoke locations, including “In the Clouds Window Installation” at Arts Etobicoke Storefront Gallery and “Six Through One Exhibition” at Smith Zone Gallery.

8. Laura Cavacece Live in Concert

Where: The Assembly Hall Theater, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr, Etobicoke, ON M8V 4B6

Cost: $39.99

Laura Cavacece is a Toronto singer-songwriter and vocal coach who has seen great success across Canada. She’ll be back home to take to the stage for an intimate concert at The Assembly Hall Theater this Friday. Whether you’re a pop or rock n’ roll fan, or prefer some country or musical theatre, you’re in luck, because she has it all. It’s a four part show with genres to suit all tastes. You can grab yourself some tickets through Eventbrite.

9. Fall Plants and Flowers Walking Tour

When: Sunday, September 10th, 10:30am – 12pm

Where: Benches across from the Grenadier Café, 200 Parkside Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3

With the muggy days of summer seemingly behind us, it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy some fresh morning air. The Sunday walking tours in High Park are perfect for doing just that. This week’s walk will be led by local naturalist Bob Kortright who’ll be teaching you all about the fall plants and flowers of the park.

10. Corn Roast and Heritage Fair at Montgomery’s Inn

When: Thursday, September 7th, 5pm – 8pm

Where: Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1A8

If you’re ready to start the weekend early, then Montgomery’s Inn is just the ticket this Thursday. It might be one of your last chances this year to enjoy fresh local corn. The annual corn roast is a fun (and yummy) get together, with live music, kids activities, and heritage displays. Grab a lawn chair and head on over for an evening of celebration.
