If you’re making plans for the weekend and want to stay close to home, then we’ve got the list for you! There are plenty of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend, with something for all the family. We’ve chosen our top ten picks to help you plan the perfect weekend. Let’s go!

1. Othello by Driftwood Thetare

When: Sunday, July 30th, 7:30pm – 9:30pm

Where: Memorial Park, 340 Chaplin Crescent, Toronto, ON M5N 2N3

Driftwood Theatre Group is a touring outdoor theatre company that puts on shows all over Ontario. This Sunday, they’ll be in Memorial Park in North York performing Othello. Head on over for an evening of entertainment under the stars.

2. Woodbine Mid-Summer Handicapping Tournament

When: Saturday, July 29th, 11am

Where: Woodbine Racetrack, 555 Rexdale Blvd, Toronto, ON M9W 5L2

If you’re an avid horseracing fan, then you might already know about the Woodbine mid-summer handicapping tournament happening this weekend. With the better horses handicapped, these races are incredibly tough to call. With buy in at $500, this one’s definitely for the pros among you.

3. Community Lunch at Islington Seniors’ Centre

Where: Islington Seniors’ Centre, 4968 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M9A 1B7

Cost: $4

It’s time again for the monthly community lunch at Islington Seniors’ Centre. Get together with friedns old and new while enjoying a meal, dessert, and coffee. This lunch is open to both members and non-members.

4. Free Yoga Class at Sherway Gardens Mall

Where: Centre Court of Sherway Gardens Mall, 25 The West Mall, Etobicoke, ON M9C 1B8

There’s more free yoga happening this week! If you’re an early riser, you can head on over to Sherway Gardens Mall on Sunday morning to enjoy a session in Centre Court. This is a Vinyassa flow yoga class, hosted by lululemon athletica and led by Natalie Webber.

5. Black Diamond Mac and Cheese Festival

Where: Port Credit Memorial Park, Mississauga, ON L5G 2T8

Love mac and cheese? Who doesn’t! You can get you fill this weekend by heading over to the Black Diamond Mac and Cheese Festival. It’s happening just west of Etobicoke, in Port Credit Memorial Park. There’ll be mac and cheese (of course), plus other traditional festival eats. You’ll also enjoy tons of entertainment, including a movie on the Friday night, an inflatable park, and country line dancing lessons!

6. Plancha Tendencies Wrestling

Where: The Rockpile Bar and Nightclub, 5555 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9B 1B8

Cost: $20

Are you a wrestling fan or have one in the family? Then this is must-see event. Lucha libre is a form of Mexico professional wrestling, and company Lucha in the 6 specializes in hosting dedicated events. Aside from entertaining wrestling, there’s also live music and authentic Latin food.

7. Saturday Stories at Brentwood Library

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5

If you want to get your little one out of the house for a bit on Saturday morning, Saturday Stories is a great program. Run by many libraries in the area, this drop-in program is open to children of all ages along with their parents or caregivers. They’ll listen to stories and sing songs while fueling their love of books!

8. Button Making for Teens at Richview Library

Need to keep your crafty teen occupied this Friday afternoon? They’ll love this workshop where they’ll get to make cool buttons to take home. This program is open to ages 12 and up and is drop-in so there’s no registration required.

9. Indigo Dyeing Workshops at Black Creek Pioneer Village

Where: Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York, ON M3J 2P3

Want to learn some techniques from a professional costume designer? Black Creek Pioneer Village’s own designer will be running these workshop to teach attendees the art of indigo dyeing. Choose from a resist or open dip dyeing workshop and walk away with your very own creations.

10. Local Farmers’ Markets

If you haven’t already had the chance to visit one of our wonderful local farmers’ markets, there’s still time! Most run throughout the summer ending in October. However, now in middle of summer, it’s one of the best times to get your hands a huge range of fresh local produce. Aside from all the wonderful seasonal fruits and vegetables, most markets also offer up meats, cheese, preserves, baked goods, and more.
