It’s finally time to put the winter behind you and embrace the sunshine! As well as Mother’s Day celebrations this month, plenty is happening with everything from live music to horse racing and even ping pong. We’ve rounded up our top picks for fun things to do in Etobicoke in May. Let’s jump in!
1. Derby Day Party at Woodbine Racetrack

Where: Woodbine Racetrack, 555 Rexdale Blvd., Etobicoke, ON M9W 5L2
Cost: $80 per person
To celebrate Kentucky Derby Day, Woodbine Racetrack is throwing a Derby Day party. Expect great views of racing, whisky tasting, cigar rolling, live music by Toronto band Electric Blonde, and a prize for the best dressed! The event culminates in a viewing of the 2018 running of the famous Kentucky Derby.
2. Baking 101 at Jean Augustine Centre

Where: Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment, 101 Portland Street, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 1B1
Bake to your heart’s content at this women’s baking day held at the Jean Augustine Centre. It is is a week-by-week course, and the first week will be all about learning baking basics and getting to know your ingredients.
3. Kingsway Organ Recital Series

Where: All Saints Kingsway Anglican Church, 2850 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1B2
Experience the power of pipe organ music at this concert by organist Mark Himmelman. Mark began playing the organ at the age of seven. The event is run by Organix, a world-renown organization promoting organ musicians from all over the world. Tickets are free, but donations are always welcome!
4. Repair Café

Where: Parkdale Library, 1303 Queen Street West, Etobicoke, ON M6K 1L6
The Repair Cafe is an ingenious idea! Rather than throwing away a broken item, bring it to the Repair Cafe where they will advise you on how to fix it yourself, or get it fixed right there! You can take anything from a piece of clothing to a computer and get advice from their team of volunteer fixers. It’s a great way to get to know people in the community too. Visit the Repair Cafe at Parkdale Library or check their calendar for future dates.
5. Centennial Park Bird Walk

When: Sunday, May 13th, 9am – 11am
Where: Centennial Park Conservatory, 151 Elmcrest Rd., Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S2
Join this guided bird walk organized by Our Place Initiative, an organisation encouraging local people to engage with the community in Etobicoke. The walk starts at the Conservatory and finishes at the Wild Goose Bar and Grill. You don’t need to be a bird expert to join — in fact, you can be a complete beginner!
6. Mother’s Day Buffet

Cost: $54.95 per person, Children $24.95, under 5s free
If you’re stuck for somewhere to take Mum this Mother’s Day, why not book a Mother’s Day buffet lunch or dinner at the Old Mill? There’s a huge variety of food on offer in a beautiful setting. Book in advance.
7. Ping Pong for Adults and Seniors

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Road North, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5
Ping pong is great exercise for everyone, but especially the older generations, as it improves coordination, helps you get fit, and is a fun way of meeting new people. Join a class at Brentwood Library — beginners welcome!
8. Season Opening at New Toronto Lawn Bowling Club

Where: 153 Lakeshore Dr, Etobicoke, ON M8V 2A1
Whether you are already experienced at bowling or fancy giving it a try this year, the New Toronto Lawn Bowling Club, established in 1902, is the place to be. May 19th is the day the club officially opens for the season. You can book a free trial lesson to see if you like it, and new members get a discount for the first year.
9. KCM Annual Children’s Music Festival

Where: Humber College Auditorium, 3199 Lake Shore Blvd. W., Etobicoke, ON M8K 1K8
Cost: $5 per person
The Kingsway Conservatory of Music offers music lessons to children of all ages from babies, toddlers, and young children upwards. Their 13th Annual Children’s Music Festival will see 150 children aged four to 10 years sing and perform music from all over the world.
10. Market Day at Montgomery’s Inn

Where: Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1A8
An array of fresh produce is available at the Montgomery Inn farmers market. Vendors will be selling everything from honey to buffalo cheese as well as fresh veg, cakes, pastries, scones, and cookies. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, then how about freshly baked bread from the Montgomery’s Inn wood-fired oven?
