Although the Canada 150 celebrations are largely over, there is still a whole beautiful summer ahead. As always, there are plenty of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend. Check out our top ten list of events that has something for everyone. Let’s go!

1. Authentic Italian Evening at Messina Bakery

When: Saturday, July 8th, 7pm

Where: Messina Bakery, 19 Scarlett Rd, York, ON M6N 4J5

Cost: $40

If you like the sound of being transported to Italy for the evening, then this is the event for you. Messina Bakery will become transformed as guests experience the true taste of Italy. There’ll be focaccia, gnocchi, cannoli, and of course wine. You’ll also be entertained as you dine with specially curated Italian film and music.

2. Friday Afternoon at the Movies at Brentwood Library

When: Friday, July 7th, 2pm – 4pm

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5

Fancy starting the weekend off with a fun afternoon family movie? Join other families in the community this Friday for a screening of Disney Pixar’s Cars at Brentwood Library. There’ll also be a different family-friendly movie to enjoy each week throughout the summer. If you happen to be closer to Richview Library, they’ll also be showing a selection of movies at the same each Friday.

3. Guilt Free Zone Performance

When: Friday, July 7th, 5:30pm – 10pm

Where: New Toronto Studios, 23 Buckingham St, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 2W2

Guilt Free Zone is a comedy series starring award-winning musician Derek Miller. For filming, this variety show is performed in front of a packed live audience that you could be a part of! There are four live performances being held at New Toronto Studios for an upcoming season, one happening on Friday, July 7th. This event is free to attend but you can register through Eventbrite.

4. Technology Experience for Kids at Eatonville Library

When: Friday, July 7th, 2pm – 4pm

Where: Eatonville Library, 430 Burnhamthorpe Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9B 2B1

If you’ve got tech-loving kids, then Eatonville Library is the place for them to be on Friday. This two-hour workshop will expose them to a range of kid-friendly technologies, including robots and virtual reality. This is a drop-in program with no registration required.

5. 11th Annual Fusion of Taste Festival

When: Sunday, July 9th, 12pm – 10:30pm

Where: Intersection of Albion Road and Islington Avenue

The Fusion of Taste Festival is the signature event of the Albion Square Business Improvement Area, Now in its 11th year, it offers the opportunity for everyone in the local and surrounding area to come to together to celebrate food and culture. There will be performances from over 100 artists and plenty of vendors to visit, offering everything form delicious culinary treats to toys and jewelry.

6. Dixie-Bloor Neighbourhood Centre Summerfest

When: Saturday, July 8th, 11:15am – 3:15pm

Where: Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, 1500 Gulleden Dr, Mississauga, ON L4X 2T7

Although this is in Mississauga, it’s likely not too far for many of you and offers a super fun day out for the whole family. There’ll be plenty of kids’ activities, including a “Wild About Canada Pop-up Adventure Playground”. There’ll also be karaoke, entertainment, and snacks and refreshments.

7. Summer Lady Beer Festival

When: Saturday, July 8th, 2017, 1pm – 5pm or 6:30pm – 10:30pm

Where: Henderson Brewery, 128A Sterling Rd, Toronto, ON M6P 0A1

The Society of Beer Drinking Ladies has been putting on dozens of successful beer-centric event over the past few years. This event, which has moved due to the Toronto Island closure, is now being held a stone’s throw from Etobicoke in Toronto’s west end. The ladies will be taking over the whole of Henderson Brewing’s space (indoor and outdoor) and turning it into an island-style beer party. Beer -drinking ladies, grab your girlfriends and head on over for beer samples, entertainment, and good company!

8. Stewardship Food in the Park

When: Sunday, July 9th, 10am – 12pm

Where: Discovery Centre at Downsview Park, 70 Canuck Ave North York, ON M3K 2C5

This weekend marks the start of a fantastic program run by the folks at the Discovery Centre in Downsview Park. It’s a great excuse to get outside, learn about nature, and help care for the park. You even get to take home free food! Help plant in the educational garden and forage for wild garlic mustard as you do your bit to help.

9. Euchre at Franklin Horner

When: Saturday, July 8th, 7pm and Sunday, July 9th, 1pm

Where: Franklin Horner Community Centre, 432 Horner Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8W 2B2

Cost: $3 – $5

Franklin Horner Community Centre continues to offer a huge selection of programs, ranging from arts and crafts to fitness and entertainment. If you like to play euchre, then you’re in luck, as the centre offers it almost daily, including over the weekend. Check the website for other days and times.

10. Nomadic Supper on the Farm

When: Sunday, July 9th, 4:30pm

Where: Black Creek Community Farm, 4929 Jane St, North York, ON M3N 2K8

Cost: $70

This event brings nomadic culture to the forefront with a very different dining experience. Chef Bashir Munye is currently showcasing his talents in African and Mediterranean cuisine in a series of Nomadic dinners. He will be hosting this supper at Black Creek Community Farm were guests will try his global-inspired cuisine while seated on cushioned floors, and (optionally) eating with their hands!
