Hi! I’m Markian Silecky, a broker with the Thompsonsells team. My wife Oriana and I had been house hunting for a few years. We loved our home in South Etobicoke, but our family was expanding (we have two young and very active boys) and we were running out of space.

We explored many parts of Etobicoke, and in the end, Humber Valley Village came out on top. We moved into the neighbourhood in June 2021 and have enjoyed every moment.

Here are five of the reasons we love living in Humber Valley Village:

It’s a Nature Lovers’ Paradise.

  • Mature trees and canopies line many of the streets. We have a majestic old oak tree in our backyard, and there is a cluster of 100+-year-old great white pines on our street.
  • Wildlife sightings are commonplace. I often see rabbits, coyotes, and hawks during my daily walks and we have a family of cardinals and blue jays that reside in our backyard.
  • Green spaces are everywhere! From parks and parquettes to trails, Humber Valley Village has no shortage of nature spots. Our personal favourite is James Gardens botanical gardens; our two boys love the duck pond!

Outdoor Recreational Opportunities are Abundant.

  • The Humber River Recreational Trail and Lambton Woods are the perfect urban wilderness escape, providing kilometres of trails for walking, cycling, cross country skiing and dog walking with picturesque views of the Humber River.
  • The playgrounds are a destination in their own right! Visitors drop off toys at Chestnut Hills Park for the kids to enjoy and the park at Kingsway College School offers opportunities for imaginative play.
  • We love skating and playing shinny at Humber Valley Rink. The tobogganing hill at Humber Valley Village JMS is loads of fun for the kiddos.

It’s a Great Place to Raise a Family.

  • All of our neighbours are extremely friendly. Our eldest son frequently comments about how nice everyone is; people are always waving and saying hello. Many stop for a quick chat!
  • Safety is paramount. Neighbours check-in and notify each other when they are away.
  • There is a fantastic community spirit. Trick-or-treating in Chestnut Hills was so much fun this year! Many decorations were over the top and there were some very spooky haunted houses. One homeowner on Reigate Road even organized a Tiny Tim’s Doughnut Truck!
  • Many of the lots are large with wide frontages which offer endless possibilities for child-friendly fun: a soccer pitch, a skating rink or a pool.

All of the Schools are Top Notch.

  • Humber Valley Village JMS and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic school are highly ranked elementary schools as are Rosethorn Junior School and Our Lady of Peace Catholic School which offer French Immersion.
  • Etobicoke Collegiate Institute and Bishop Allen Academy are among the top secondary schools in the city.
  • For those looking for a private school experience without a long commute, Kingsway College School (KCS) located at Dundas St and Wimbleton Rd is a great option. KCS launched its senior school with grade 9 in 2021 and will grow to offering JK-Grade 12 by 2024.

The Independent Shops and Restaurants are Superb!

Some of our favourites so far:

  • Zest for Living Party Pros – Our go-to place for balloons and party supplies – we have had many of them with two young boys! The balloons last forever!
  • Ma Maison – We love picking up croissants and homemade soups from this French bakery! They also make a fantastic latte.
  • Capi’s Pizza– Since trying this place in November, we order almost weekly. Great crust, perfect San Marzano sauce, interesting combinations. Our personal favourite is the Roni – deceivingly simple this pepperoni pizza is elevated with fresh basil and house-made hot honey.
  • Vanderfleet Flowers – Nestled in Humbertown Shopping Plaza, this is the best place to pick up a curated bouquet! The flowers are fresh and beautifully arranged!
  • Magoo’s – The ultimate burger joint in Etobicoke! We recommend their spicy fries and Magoo’s secret sauce. They also have amazing milkshakes!

Bonus Features:

In addition to those above, some personal reasons that I love living in Humber Valley are the fact that my 88-year-old grandmother lives nearby. I take our youngest son for a walk most days and he loves stopping by “great nana’s” house on our route. As well, one of the bonuses of joining Re/Max Professionals was the fact that it’s so close to my home. I am passionate about a number of environmental causes and reducing my carbon footprint so I’m thrilled that I can actually walk to my office (I’ve never been able to do that before!)

If you are thinking about buying, or selling a home in Humber Valley Village, please feel free to contact Markian for a complimentary consultation. He can discuss how he’ll be sure to add value to every transaction.
