If you’re wondering what to get up to this weekend, look no further as we have the list for you. There is always plenty going on in our area and this weekend is no different. We’ve found ten fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend, with something for the whole family! Let’s go!

1. Big Rock Brewery Summer Open House

When: Saturday, August 19th, 12pm – 5pm

Where: Big Rock Brewery, 1589 The Queensway, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 5W9

Big Rock Brewery has several locations in Canada, including Calgary, Vancouver, and Liberty Village in Toronto. Lucky for us, they’ve also got one right on our doorstep in Etobicoke. What’s more, they’re celebrating summer this weekend with a free open house. Head on over to sip on some beer samples and enjoy a brewery tour, snacks, and live entertainment. This event is even pet-friendly and kid-friendly, so there’s nothing stopping you!

2. Ukraine Independence Day at Centennial Park

When: Saturday, August 19th, 10am – 11pm

Where: Centennial Park, 256 Centennial Park Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 5N3

Canada’s biggest celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day is happening right here in Etobicoke. Crowds will gather in Centennial Park on Saturday to celebrate both Ukraine’s independence and Canada’s 150th birthday. There’ll be Ukrainian food, dancing, and singing, as well as lots of crafts and souvenirs for sale.

3. Map Family Saturdays Todmorden Mills Visits Albion

When: Saturday, August 19th, 2pm – 3pm

Where: Albion Library, 1515 Albion Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9V 1B2

MAP Family Saturdays involve various Toronto attractions visiting select library locations on Saturday afternoons. This week, Todmorden Mills Heritage Site will be visiting Albion Library for an hour of family fun. The session is aimed at both pre-school and school-age kids, and families will learn about old toys and games, and even make some of their own.

4. Native Plants and Flowers Walking Tour

When: Sunday, August 20th, 10:30am – 12pm

Where: Benches across from Grenadier Restaurant

Another Sunday and another beautiful walking tour in High Park. This tour will be led by Karen Yukich, a local naturalist and photographer. She’ll be taking you to explore the natural restoration sites within the park, where the focus is on restoring the plant life to its former beauty.

5. Afroblast Dance Fitness

Where: AfroLatino Dance Company, 3347 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6P 2A6

Cost: $8.90

Do you love a dance workout but you’re tired of Zumba? Afroblast could be just the ticket! This women’s fitness class will have you dancing away to Afrobeat tunes and working up a sweat in no time. Instructor Bintou Baroow is, in fact, Zumba certified, but her diverse background has inspired her to come up with her own, even more creative version.

6. Run for Palestine

When: Sunday, August 20th, 9am – 2pm

Where: Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, 1751 Lake Shore Blvd W, Toronto, ON

This annual 5K charity run is in its 9th year, and this year all proceeds will go to The Recovering Well Being of Gaza Project. Runners will be starting off from Sir Casimir Gzowski Park and heading along the scenic Martin Goodman Trail. With over 1,200 attendees last year, it’s set to be a fun filled family event. Aside form the run, there’ll be a BBQ, market, and live entertainment.

7. Rastafest at Black Creek Pioneer Village

When: Saturday, August 19th, 1pm – 11pm

Where: Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York, ON M3J 2P3

In its 17th year, Rastafest is the largest Canadian celebration of Rastafarian culture. Taking place in the north property of Black Creek Pioneer Village, this family-friendly event features ancestral drumming, performances by Reggae stars, kids’ entertainment, and a crafts market. There’ll also be plenty of food vendors serving up delicious Caribbean eats.

8. Discovery Community Christian Church Rummage Sale

Where: Westway Christian Church, 6 Kilburn Pl, Etobicoke, ON M9R 2X5

It’s been a while since we’ve featured a rummage sale, and even with all those summer garage sales, you still might be looking for a fix. Well, Westway Christian Church is the spot for treasure-hunting this Saturday. With both new and used goods on offer, you never know what you might find.

9. Smurfs at Brentwood Library

When: Friday, August 18th, 2pm – 4pm

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5

Whether you’ve got pre-schoolers or teens to entertain, you really can’t go wrong with a family movie. Brentwood Library continues its program of summer family movies this Friday afternoon with a screening of Smurfs: The Lost Village.

10. Teen Colouring Club at Richview Library

When: Friday, August 18th, 2pm – 3pm

Where: Richview Library, 1806 Islington Ave, Etobicoke, ON M9P 3N3

If your teen would rather be spending time colouring with fellow artists, then head over to Richview Library instead. Open to ages 12 and up, this session gives kids a chance to get creative while meeting up with old and new friends.
