Although the Canada 150 celebrations are largely over, there is still a whole beautiful summer ahead. As always, there are plenty of fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend. Check out our top ten list of events that has something for everyone. Let’s go!
1. Heart Strings the Musical

When: Sunday, July 16th, 8pm – 10:30pm
Where: Maple Leaf House Grill and Lounge, 2749 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1H2
Cost: $25
This musical, set in Ireland in August 1908, tells the story of Sir William, his beloved wife, and their only daughter. The home of the family sets the scene for a tale of love, drama, comedy, and corruption. If you miss this show, it will also be performed on multiple dates at the Hamilton Fringe Festival later in the month.
2. Summerlicious at Various Locations

Where: Participating Restaurants
Cost: $18 – $48
It’s that wonderful time of year again as Summerlicious is fully underway, having started on July 7th. During the festival, foodies delight as restaurants offer prix fixe lunch and dinner menus at very reasonable prices. You can check out the full restaurant list, along with prices and menus, on the website, but some Etobicoke participants include Merlot on Bloor St West and SantaMonica Trattoria on The Queensway.
3. PetSmart Etobicoke Doggie Ice Cream Social

Where: PetSmart Etobicoke, 158 N Queen St, Etobicoke, ON M9C 1A8
We all love a nice cool ice cream on a hot summer’s day, and now your pooch can get in on the action too. To celebrate National Ice Cream Day, PetSmart will be offering up special doggie ice cream to all of its canine visitors. Aside from delicious doggies treats, there’ll also be a photo booth, tours, and giveaways.
4. Exploring Spring Creek Ravine Walking Tour at High Park

Where: Benches across from the Grenadier Café, 200 Parkside Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3
If you fancy getting out for a nice family walk this Sunday, High Park is a great choice. You can either wander through the park yourselves or join a walking tour. Guided tours happen every other Sunday, this one being led by arborist Steve Smith, exploring Spring Creek Ravine.
5. The Toronto 5K Foam Fest

When: Saturday, July 15th, 8am – 3pm
Where: Claireville Conservation Area, 8180 Hwy 50, Brampton, ON L6T 0A6
Cost: $72 – $85
Mud races are seemingly popping up everywhere, but don’t appeal to everyone. If you’re not a fan of all that dirt, then maybe Toronto’s 5K Foam Fest will appeal to you. This event being run just north west of Etobicoke in Claireville Conservation Area in Brampton, will see contestants tackle more than 20 fun but challenging obstacles while getting covered in foam.
6. National Diversity and Inclusion Day Sir Casimir Gzowski Park

Where: Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, 1751 Lake Shore Blvd W, Toronto, ON
This event will celebrate Canada’s diverse culture and commitment to fostering inclusion of people from all backgrounds. Run by the Caribbean Women’s Society in conjunction with Women’s Health in Women’s Hands CHC, this free event offers a family-friendly day out, with fun to be had for kids and adults alike. There will be music, arts and crafts, face painting, workshops, and lots more!
7. Tech Petting Zoo at Brentwood Library

Where: Brentwood Library, 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2B5
If you’ve got a techie in the household, they’d probably love to check out this workshop at Brentwood Library on Saturday afternoon. There’ll be a selection of robots on display and the opportunity to play with and even code them. This program is also running on a couple more select Saturdays during the summer. It’s open to all ages and is drop-in so no registration is required.
8. Knitting Circle at New Toronto Library

Where: New Toronto Library, 110 11th St, Etobicoke, ON M8V 3G5
If you’re a knitting enthusiast but would like some company, then the knitting circle at New Toronto Library is the perfect place. Take along a project and join fellow knitters for a relaxing afternoon of creativity and chatter.
9. Photography Walk at York Recreation Centre

When: Saturday, July 15th, 9am – 10:15am or 10:30am – 12pm
Where: York Recreation Centre, 115 Black Creek Dr, Toronto, ON M6A 0A9
Are you a budding photographer but need a little guidance? This is a great free workshop being offered at York Recreation Centre. Led by Taku Kumabe, an expert photographer and contest judge, participants will walk through the centre and hear tips and tricks about how to take the best action shots. You’ll learn about everything from shooting angles to lighting, so that you can take fantastic shots of people in any setting.
10. Double Helix Guitar Duo at Old Mill

Where: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5
Cost: $20
Old Mill continues to provide a stellar lineup of musicians every Friday and Saturday. This Friday you can hear from Vancouver guitar duo, Double Helix. Brothers Tony and Peter Chotem are known for their improvisational style that creates a unique ambience. Mixing jazz, folk, pop, and Latin music, they’ll bring an incredible atmosphere to Old Mill’s Home Smith Bar. If you’d prefer a Saturday night out instead, you can head down to listen to the Dave Caldwell Quartet at 7:30pm.
