With Father’s Day to celebrate and the first day of summer fast approaching, you’ll no doubt want to get out and about with family and friends this weekend. Luckily you don’t need to go far to find some entertainment. Our go-to guide offers up the perfect list of ten fun things to do in Etobicoke this weekend. Let’s get started!

1. Great Lakes 15th Annual Charity BBQ

When: Saturday, June 17th, 12pm – 5pm

Where: Great Lakes Brewery, 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 1L8

It’s time for the Great Lakes 15th Annual Charity BBQ. This event, to raise money for Franklin Horner Community Centre, is free to attend and open to everyone. You can sample Great Lakes’ offerings in the beer garden, enjoy live entertainment, and take the little ones to the kids’ zone where there’ll be face painting, activities, and more!

2. Leashes in the Park

Where: Saturday, June 17th, 11am – 3pm

When: West Deane Park, Etobicoke at Martingrove and Rathburn

Leashes in the Park is a pet-friendly walk-a-thon to raise money for the Etobicoke Humane Society. Take along your pup and join in this fun community event. Aside from the walk, there’ll be lots more going on, including petrography, a craft corner, a BBQ, and a raffle. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask a vet your pet health questions and even meet the Toronto Police K9 Unit.

3. Father’s Day Brunch at Old Mill

Where: Sunday, June 18th, 10am – 1:30pm & 5pm – 7:30pm

When: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5

What better way to celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday than for everyone to take the day off from cooking and head to Old Mill for their famous brunch? There’s always so much to choose from, including carved roast beef, bone-in ham, seafood specialties, and decadent desserts.

4. Know Your Nature Family Walk in High Park

Where: High Park Nature Centre, 375 Colborne Lodge Dr, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3

As we prepare to enter summer, it’s a great time for getting familiar with all the nature that our beautiful parks have to offer. This walking tour is led by High Park Eagle Youth and is suitable for all ages. Take the whole family to stroll through the park while learning fascinating facts about its woodlands and habitats.

5. Fun Fair and Flea Market at Elmlea Junior School

When: Saturday, June 17th, 11am – 2pm

Where: Elmlea Junior School, 50 Hadrian Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9W 1V4

This is an excellent event for getting your flea market fix while knowing that your dollars are going to a good cause. This fundraiser, to help the school pay for their new kindergarten playground, will have plenty of festivities for everyone. There’ll be a flea market with over 30 vendors, a fun fair including a bouncy castle and balloon toss, and a raffle with some fantastic prizes.

6. Feast of Corpus Christi

When: Saturday, June 17th, 11am – 8pm

Where: Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 480 Rathburn Road, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S8

The Feast of Corpus Christi is a huge event run by the Nativity of Our Lord Parish. With over 1000 attendees expected this year, it’s sure to be a fun day out. Entertainment will include performances from soul singer Gabriela Rodgers, tribute artists Matt Cage (aka Elvis) and Brent Freedman (aka Buddy Holly), and ballroom dancers Silvie Anderson and Dan Lee.

7. The Battle of Black Creek

When: Saturday and Sunday, June 17th – 18th, 11am – 5pm

Where: Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York, ON M3J 2P3

If Dad is a history enthusiast, then this could be the perfect Father’s Day gift. This fun-filled weekend (you can attend either day) centered around a Revolutionary War reenactment gives you the chance to march with soldiers in an 18th century combat experience. You can also try your hand at being a spy as you crack codes to find a traitor, catch a 1770’s fashion show, and watch a live musket demo!

8. Saturday Puppet Show at Elmbrook Library

Where: Elmbrook Library, 2 Elmbrook Crescent, Etobicoke, ON M9C 5B4

If you’ve got little ones to entertain on Saturday morning, then there are always fun events happening at our local libraries. You can head over to Elmbrook Library to catch a puppet show aimed at all pre-school and school-age kids. This event kicks off the library’s summer reading club and will also feature songs and crafts to keep the kiddies entertained.

9. Roncesvalles Food Nook Tour

When: Sunday, June 18th, 2:30pm – 4:30pm (Other dates available)

Where: Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, ON

Cost: $30

If you need a last minute Father’s Day gift, or just fancy doing something a little different, Food Nook Tours could be a great option. This company specializes in local walking tours enabling you to enjoy the sights and sound of Roncesvalles (or the Junction) as you sample delights from local vendors. If you can’t make it this weekend, not to worry, just check their website for additional dates.

10. Friday Night Fish and Chips

Where: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 643, 110 Jutland Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 2H1

If you’re fish and chip fan, then the Royal Canadian Legion on Jutland has you covered. This Friday, they’ll be serving up fish and chips from 5pm until 8pm. They always offer great food at a good price and it’s a chance to meet up with other members of the community.
